Incredible people are what really turn the wheels of global agriculture and this is what makes our industry so fascinating to be involved within. Over the past year, I have had the real privilege of meeting some brilliant people from the farming industry operating across the globe. All of whom have been kind enough to open up about their business sharing details and facts, sharing their stories good or bad, their thoughts, ambitions and their vision for their businesses and the wider farming sector. I have been hosted by some great people that have let me stay with them and their families as I have set out on this fantastic Nuffield Farming Scholarship journey.
2016 has been an incredible year with 9 countries visited, across 4 continents with 31 flights been undertaken. The year commenced with the Nuffield New Scholars Conference in Ireland, followed by my Global Focus Programme tour of the UK, Washington DC, California, Mexico, Brazil and New Zealand. I have also visited Australia, the Netherlands, France and Belgium.
I have met with well over 300 different businesses, organisations and individuals from the farming sector across the globe, and I would like to say a huge thank you to all of them for kindly giving up their time to meet with me and for making my Nuffield journey during 2016 all the more informative and enjoyable.
The best phrase which I have picked up on my travels during 2016 is ‘culture will eat strategy for breakfast any day’ and when you think about it, it is really true. You can have the best planned strategy in place, but unless you have the right people to drive it, creating the right atmosphere for others to follow, your brilliantly crafted strategy is going nowhere.
2016 will certainly be a year to remember for me. I share with you some photos of the great, fantastic people which I have met over the past 12 months through this incredible Nuffield Farming experience.
Happy New Year, and now lets see what 2017 will bring…….
